Rupert's traveltips - DON"T GET LOST!!

When you want to travel around London, the tube is the best way to go. Although taxis and cabs are very cheap compared to Dutch standards, they are often stuck in traffic, and the meter will keep on running. The famous London busses are cheap too, but again the traffic is very dense during all hours of the day. There is also a special kind of taxes that need to be paid if you want to drive a car in the city centre. This will be reflected in the fare price.
All cars and trucks are registered by cameras when then enter the city. And the bill will be in the mail shortly after. If you don't pay, the police will get you as soon as your car passes the cameras again. Or your license plates are registered elsewhere.

Of course I have to mention the left hand driving. So be careful when you cross the road. Because London attracks a lot of tourist all year round, most roads and streets have instructions painted on them (see picture below). But please ensure you don't become roadkill.

When you use the tube/underground you have to get a ticket. There are ticket machines at every station. You can pay with a bankcard or coins. If you are not sure what kind of ticket you'll need, you can find the necessary information on the maps near the ticketmachine. London is divided up into zones. This will determine which ticket you need. Find out what you need before you go to the ticketnachine so other travellers are not bother by you ("annoying tourist!"). Some station have assistance, this means you can ask questions about your trip and pay.

It is also possible to get a daycard. These can be cheaper if you are planning to travel around a lot on one day. Again the zones apply.

Each line has it own colour. And of course the each track or line travels both ways. For example : Northbound or Southbound. So you (and your whole group) need to know which way your are going! Every station, as well as on the inside of every train, will show the stations on that line.
The stations are little squars on the tube map. The white stations are where you can transfer(=overstappen) from one line to another.

We do NOT want you to travel around the tube system on your own. ALWAYS stay with your group and look after each other! If one of you is going to find out something or ask for directions it is easy to get seperated. Try not to be an iZombie (any ideas what this could be??) either. Your groupmates aren't there just to babysit.
